Role Overview
At Qeemah, we are engineering the real-time financial backbone for thousands of businesses across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the GCC. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will lead the core architecture of our financial ledger engine, multi-tenant accounting services, and our high-throughput ZATCA Phase 2 cryptographic signing infrastructure.
You will collaborate directly with our engineering leadership to build fault-tolerant microservices, optimize high-volume PostgreSQL databases, and guarantee sub-second clearance and reporting SLAs for business-critical e-invoices.
What You Will Do
- Architect High-Scale Financial Engines: Design, develop, and maintain modular Node.js & TypeScript microservices processing millions of daily financial transactions, journal entries, and automated VAT calculations.
- ZATCA Phase 2 Cryptography & Compliance: Maintain and scale our stateless cryptographic signing pipeline (ECDSA secp256k1, SHA-256 digests, XML canonicalization, and UBL 2.1 e-invoicing compliance) communicating directly with ZATCA’s Fatoora platform.
- Data Integrity & Performance: Optimize PostgreSQL schemas, write high-efficiency Drizzle ORM queries, and architect Redis caching and BullMQ background workers for asynchronous invoice dispatch and bank feeds.
- System Resilience & Security: Champion robust testing practices, automated CI/CD releases, multi-tenant isolation, role-based access control (RBAC), and SOC 2 / Saudi cybersecurity standards.
- Mentorship & Technical Leadership: Conduct thorough code reviews, lead architectural design discussions (RFCs), and mentor mid-level and junior backend engineers.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with TypeScript & Node.js (Express, NestJS, or Fastify) in high-reliability SaaS environments.
- Deep PostgreSQL Expertise: Proven experience designing normalized relational schemas, handling distributed transactions, and optimizing complex analytical and ledger queries.
- Distributed Architecture: Hands-on experience with asynchronous task queues, Redis, background jobs, and event-driven architecture.
- API Standards & Security: Deep understanding of RESTful API architecture, idempotent operations, JWT/session security, and OWASP best practices.
- Problem Solver: A pragmatic, detail-oriented approach to code quality, edge-case testing, and zero-downtime database migrations.
- Location: Based in Riyadh (or willing to relocate) for a hybrid work model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote). Candidates across GCC with strong timezone overlap are also considered.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with accounting software, ERPs, fintech, or payment gateways.
- Working knowledge of ZATCA Phase 2 XML specifications, cryptographic hashing, or PKI infrastructure.
- Familiarity with AWS infrastructure (ECS, RDS PostgreSQL, ElastiCache, Terraform).
What We Offer
- Competitive Compensation: SAR 22,000 to SAR 32,000 per month based on experience and impact.
- Comprehensive Healthcare: Premium health and dental insurance for you and your eligible dependents in Saudi Arabia.
- GOSI Coverage: Full social insurance compliance according to Saudi labor laws.
- Hardware & Workspace: Latest 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro (M-Series) and a dedicated home office setup stipend.
- Flexible Hybrid Work: Balance productive in-office collaboration in our Riyadh hub with focused deep-work remote days.
- Learning & Conference Budget: Annual education stipend for books, certifications, and international tech conferences.
